Leadership from LGBTQ+ Organizations from Across the United States Announce the Formation of the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats
BOSTON, MA – In a pivotal moment for LGBTQ+ advocacy, leaders from 21 states have united to form the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats. This new organization aims to amplify the voices of the 19 million LGBTQ+ Americans and drive progress within the Democratic Party and across the nation.
"The challenges facing LGBTQ+ Americans today underscore the need for a bold and unapologetically progressive action, especially given the uncertainty we face with the incoming Trump administration,” said National Federation of Stonewall Democrats President Jeremy Comeau. “We are united in our mission and we are unapologetically committed to that work.”
“The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats is launching at a time of renewed extremist led attacks on our communities. We will challenge anyone or anything that threatens the progress we have made and to ensure that the Democratic Party remains a steadfast advocate for equality and justice." said Vice President Kristen Browde.
The Federation is dedicated to promoting equality, inclusivity, and representation for LGBTQ+ individuals within the Democratic Party. By championing LGBTQ+ issues at every level of government, holding elected officials accountable, and opposing legislative efforts that harm the community, the organization aims to ensure effective representation and protection for LGBTQ+ Americans. Additionally, the Federation is committed to supporting the growth of Stonewall chapters across the nation, strengthening the political power of the LGBTQ+ community, and driving a more inclusive and equitable democracy.
To further these goals, the Federation plans to engage Democratic National Committee members and leaders, ensuring that LGBTQ+ voices are central to shaping the Party’s future.
By uniting grassroots organizations and championing progressive policies, the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats is poised to lead the fight for a more equitable and inclusive democracy.
“The launch of the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats is critical given the threats facing the LGBTQ+ community. State LGBTQ+ caucuses, councils, and clubs’ work to ensure party leaders fight for LGBTQ+ rights ensures that we will continue fighting for justice, equality, and inclusion as a Democratic Party,” said U.S. Representative Robert Garcia (CA-42). “Together, we will rise to the moment we face and protect the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals in every corner of this country.”
“Today marks a historic step forward for equality and inclusion in our political process. The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats will be vital in amplifying LGBTQ+ voices and championing policies that reflect the values of fairness, justice, and dignity for all. Together, we’re going to build on our work to create a Democracy big enough for all of us,” said Congresswoman Sarah McBride (DE-AL).
"The LGBTQ community has been at the forefront of almost every single social movement in this country, moving us towards equality for workers, women, people of color and more. From Cooper's Donuts to Compton's Cafeteria and Stonewall, we've been here before and we've proven time again that we are not afraid of a fight,” said The Transgender District Co-Founder Honey Mahogany. At this critical time in our nation's history, with so many of us across this country under attack by those who would seek to divide us, it is important that we continue to unify. Reviving a National Stonewall chapter will ensure that we put our resources where they're needed most - behind candidates who will stand up for all of us, who are willing to fight for our families, our freedoms, and our futures."
